コミュティデザインは、人々の社会活動を呼び起こして、人々の協力関係を生み出して、人々がみずから直面する問題に取り組めるようにする活動であり、居場所であれ、仕組みであれ、出来事であれ、人々の社会活動のきっかけとなる、あらゆるものをデザインする活動である。それはあくまでデザインの仕事らしく、人々が集っておこなう社会活動それ自体の魅力を高めるものとする。
Community design can be seen not simply as a subfield of social design, but as its culmination. Community design seeks to encourage people’s social participation and to foster cooperation so that they can address the problems they face themselves. It seeks to design anything that can spark social activity, whether a place, a system, or an event.
